The most convenient and popular way to reach Siem Reap is by flying into Siem Reap International Airport (REP). The airport is well-connected with major cities in Asia and offers a range of international and domestic flights.
If you’re coming from the Philippines, I believe that there is no direct flight from Manila to Siem Reap, Cambodia. Thus, you need to at least enter other Southeast Asian countries like Thailand, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and Vietnam.
In my case, since I was exploring Indochina and was coming from Bangkok, Thailand, I took a one-hour flight to Siem Reap. I took a flight to Siem Reap with AirAsia. For Filipino tourists, you can stay up to 30 days in Cambodia without a visa.
By Bus
Another way of getting to Siem Reap is by land. Traveling by bus to Siem Reap is a popular option for those exploring neighboring countries or traveling within Cambodia since this is way cheaper than taking flights. There are several bus companies offering comfortable services.

Top Things to Do in Siem Reap, Cambodia
Explore Angkor Wat
You can visit and explore Angkor to see the famous Angkor Wat, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Cambodia. Located in the northern province of Cambodia, exploring Angkor Wat must be one of the main highlights of your visit to Siem Reap! In addition, Angkor Wat is said to be one of the largest religious monuments in the world. This is definitely a must-visit in Siem Reap, Cambodia. You can explore Angkor Wat for a day, 3 days, or 7 days, depending on your preference. Based on my personal experience, exploring Angkor Wat for 3 days must be enough for you to be able to visit other temples; such as the famous “Ta Prohm,” which used to be a filming location in the movie “Tomb Raider,” “Bayon Temple,” which is known for its numerous stone-carved faces, and “Angkor Thom,” which is said to be the last capital of the Khmer Empire, with several significant temples and structures.
You can buy the pass at the Angkor Ticket Office. Be sure to carry your ticket with you, as it is checked at each temple.

If you want to have a deeper understanding of Angkor history, you can visit the Angkor National Museum. This can be done before or after visiting the temple complex.

Wear the Khmer traditional clothing.
This is one of the things that you can do while exploring Angkor Wat. You can rent Khmer traditional clothes for cultural experiences. Personally, this is one of my favorite things to do when traveling to different places. I always make sure to try on the traditional clothing of the place I visit whenever I get a chance.
Apsara Dance Show
For another cultural experience, you can watch a traditional Cambodian dance performance called “Apsara” that tells stories from mythology, often held at local restaurants or theaters.
Fortunately, I was able to experience watching this cultural dance show at my hostel. My hostel, The Twizt-Lifestyle Hostel & Hotel, is really an amazing place to stay! It has a rooftop bar with a pool and usually has live bands and provides cultural shows for its guests!

Tonle Sap Lake is one of Southeast Asia’s largest freshwater lakes and a place where you can explore the floating villages and experience local life on the water.
